DA Thomas Road & Park Project

Duz Cho Construction has been awarded the project to develop the DA Thomas Road and Park on the Hudson Hope Shoreline Protection Berm, which will offer permanent access and recreational facilities for kayaking and canoeing along the shoreline. The project involves widening and paving the road to support two-lane traffic, and adding amenities including picnic tables, BBQ areas, and washroom facilities to enhance the experience for all visitors. This park, located along the reservoir, highlights the natural beauty of the Peace River and provides an accessible area for boating and fishing.

Duz Cho will install approximately 19,000 sandbags, reaching over 9 vertical meters (60 rows), as part of a Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil (GRS) wall system. This system integrates geogrid reinforcement to strengthen the sandbags, wall, and road surface, resulting in a durable and resilient structure. Due to the unstable nature of the Peace River banks, over 20,000 cubic meters of unsuitable material will be removed and replaced with specialized road construction materials. The sandbags, chosen for their flexibility and adaptability to the road’s curvature and elevation changes, contribute to the stability and longevity of the roadway. Following construction, the wall will be seeded for added protection and visual appeal.

A skilled crew of 20 laborers, equipment operators, and supervisors has been actively constructing the GRS wall, with a peak placement rate of over 400 sandbags per day. Duz Cho Construction is committed to supporting the local economy by partnering with subcontractors and suppliers from Chetwynd, Hudson Hope, and Fort St. John for sourcing and monitoring all project components.

The completion of the wall, roadway, asphalt paving, and park facilities is scheduled for July 1, 2025.
