Safety Director
Duz Cho Construction is looking for a Safety Director. It will be the safety Director’s responsibility to ensure that
the management and crews are supported to a level of excellence while maintaining the client’s standards and
programs and our COR certification.
Employees are expected to support and participate in a “culture of safety”, adhere to and be ambassadors of

respect, and fairness.
Duz Cho is a 100% Indigenous owned company, with ownership belonging to Mcleod Lake Indian Band. The
successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the diverse cultures and histories of local Indigenous
communities. They must have demonstrated experience in applying Indigenous knowledge in a professional
setting, adhering to cultural protocols, and working with a culturally safe approach. Knowledge of the Truth
and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) Calls to Action and a commitment to advancing reconciliation
are essential.
Job Description
Position: Safety Director
Department: Operations
Reports to: General Manager of Operations
Location: Chetwynd / Mackenzie, BC and surrounding areas – can be a hybrid position 1 week in and 1 week
working remotely.
Status: Full-time
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with on call and weekend support when needed
Salary Band: $150,000 – 190,000 per year plus benefits.
Being able to pass an Alcohol / Drug test will be a condition of employment.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Maintain and enhance safety program, systems and safety protocols to ensure compliance with BC
(sometimes Alberta) legislation. - Conduct safety audits and hazard assessments to identify risks and recommend corrective actions to
prevent injuries and environmental impacts. - Lead the subcontractor management program to ensure subcontractor alignment with company safety
standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations throughout all phases of project execution. - Participate in strategic planning and operational meetings to align safety objectives with company growth
and project execution. - Assist operations and project management teams with mobilization planning, workforce readiness, and
high-risk activity coordination. - Prepare and review safety content for tenders, proposals, RFQs, and RFP submissions.
- Develop project-specific safety plans, hazard assessments, and client-required HSE documentation during
bid preparation. - Assist estimating teams with safety-related costing, staffing requirements, training requirements, and
compliance planning. - Review owner and prime contractor safety specifications to ensure compliance and identify contractual
risks. - Participate in pre-bid meetings, client interviews, and contractor qualification submissions.
- Maintain and update company safety statistics, COR progress, experience profiles, training matrices, and
safety program documentation for submissions. - Support strategic pursuit planning by aligning safety capabilities with project execution strategies and client
expectations. - Coordinate subcontractor and partner prequalification reviews from a safety and compliance perspective.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of proposal templates, safety narratives, and corporate
qualification packages. - Monitor workplace compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and deliver safety training to employees on procedures and best practices.
- Investigate incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies to report and address compliance issues.
- Manage the Safety budget for personnel, safety equipment, training, and compliance needs.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement risk reduction strategies.
- Responsible for leading and advancing a strong safety culture and ensuring consistent safety practices across all operations in Western Canada.
- Evaluate new technologies that improve safety and sustainability.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive EHS initiatives.
- Other duties as required to further enhance the company’s EHS policies and procedures.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety Management, or a related field.
- 5-10+ years of hands-on experience in the development, implementation, and management of
comprehensive Health and Safety programs across diverse industries. - Certified safety professional credentials (e.g., CRSP, CSP, or equivalent) and relevant industry certifications
are required. BCCSA COR Internal auditor certification would be helpful however can be gained through
position. - Proven success building and implementing an organization wide safety program in a complex, industrial
environment - Thorough understanding of provincial & federal occupational health and safety regulations.
- Proficiency with safety management software management systems tools to track, report, and manage
safety performance, inspections, and compliance activities. - Demonstrated experience in conducting accident investigations, performing root cause analysis, and
implementing corrective measures to minimize recurrence. - In-depth understanding of hazardous materials management and safety controls related to forestry,
mining, road building, and physical hazards in the workplace.
